One of the most popular phone calls I get is to come along & tidy up a car ready for sale. The everyday minor scratches & stone chips that every car gets in regular use are straight forward to sort out. One of our Paint Scratch Tidy Up sessions will have the car looking great in no time.

One big problem however is bird droppings or ‘bird poop’ on car paintwork. If left a long time this can be devastating to your paintwork. As the ammonia in the poop will eat through the topcoat down to the metal over time. Sometimes if it’s a period of fairly warm weather, this can take only a few days. This will often require the whole panel to be repainted in a body shop. The easiest solution is to remove it as soon as you spot it on your car. So here is my tip of how best to do this…

Remove from paintwork as quickly as possible…

Firstly, DO NOT SCRUB IT or RUB IT WITH YOUR FINGER. Bird poop contains tiny bits of grit that the bird has eaten. If you scrub at the ‘poop’ you are essential turning your cloth into sandpaper!!! All this will do is put fine scouring marks in your paint… often up & down, left & right. The number of times I have attended a job to polish out ‘crosses’ from paintwork!

Here’s what you do… All you need is a bucket of hot water & a soft cloth, even kitchen roll will do. Wet your cloth & then hold it over the poop for 30 seconds. This will soften the dried on poop, then carefully wipe away once…no scrubbing!! You then repeat this process as many times as needed until the poop has completely been removed.
